As part of this Women’s Day celebrations, we will be appreciating, acknowledging the wonderful women out there. We will be interviewing some of the significant figures in the women entrepreneurship community.
Sugandha Dubey is an entrepreneur who has found balance between photography, art and e-commerce solutions. With over 18 years of work experience in marketing, sales, brand management and business strategy for iconic brands like Tanishq, Gillette, Group 4 and Getty Images, she turned entrepreneur in 2008. SIBSA Digital Pvt. Ltd. launched her long cherished venture, India’s only total photography solutions company.
G (Geeks): Sugandha, Our readers would like to know something about your business.
S (Sugandha): The SIBSA umbrella aims at creating breathtaking visuals that make individuals & brands look good, reflect their businesses well and enhance brand image. In the era of global business there is no better way to showcase India better than powerful visuals.
The flagship brand stockimagebank.com is an exclusive Indian stock images e-commerce portal providing creative contemporary copyright protected images to ad agencies and brand communication professionals across the globe. The other verticals create brand-aligned images for corporates and provide high-end photographic retouching & restoration work.
SIBSA ‘s other prized venture is Image Restoration. A highly specialized vertical that restores memories. A specially skilled and trained workforce digitizes and restores old photographs for families and institutions.
G: Why is it important to encourage entrepreneurship in India, especially among women?
S: The proportion of women versus men as entrepreneurs is still quite lopsided. I don’t see any difference in the way men or women think when it comes to business ventures, the way it is run and the challenges that are specific to business types. It is the same ecosystem we all function in.
However having said that, the challenges women face is slightly more as the support system to make it conducive is lacking. The government and the society we are a part of, both have to view women entrepreneurs as contributors to the economy and progression of society. With more women entrepreneurs the community becomes larger and the issues can then be collectively addressed if not a step towards resolving them.
I would say very proudly, that what I am today and my working style is largely influenced by my first job at Tanishq, which is a Tata company.
G: Prior to starting stockimagebank.com, you’ve worked with a lot of other business owners & in different companies. Where have you enjoyed working the most & why?
S: I would say very proudly, that what I am today and my working style is largely influenced by my first job at Tanishq, which is a Tata company. When I joined Tanishq, tagged jewelry was a concept. It was a shift in the way business was done in the jewelry segment. Being a Tata company, our entire team was groomed to perfection.
The values of doing business, the attention to detail, the value of being an honest brand, the customer service and its importance, the equal opportunity employer attitude and so on. These, I would say have contributed a lot to who I am today. Having worked with the brand when it was a concept, till it was reality and a beautiful one at that, and the most exceptional set of people has positively influenced my professional life and been one of the most enjoyable one.
G: What are your hobbies? What do you love doing when you are not being an entrepreneur?
S: I am a researcher at the core of me. I love to explore ancient history. I study behaviors of tiny organisms and insects such as ants and bees and so forth. I also enjoy cataloging and interviewing interesting people I come across all the time. I love to drive and can drive for hours in city or highways.
G: Lastly, your words of wisdom for the India women, who wish to make a difference
S: Believe in your dreams to the core. Do not let anyone or anything take the focus away from what you want to achieve. Work hard work smart. Do not let your gender come in the way of your dreams. Value yourself.
