Get a Full Body Workout at home using LiftUp

LiftUp is a portable resistance band that wirelessly connects to a mobile app for guided workouts, real-time feedback, and automatic exercise tracking. Being a resistance band, LiftUp lets people workout wherever and whenever they want, while also being portable and easy-to-store. Being a smart resistance fitness band, though, it’s the only piece of strength training equipment that tracks reps, strength, and calories, giving insights into strength progress that no other product can provide. LiftUp also has a modern look and feel, proving that strength training equipment doesn’t have to be ugly.

LiftUp consists of standard handles made smart with Smart Adapters that easily attach to the handles. Motion and force sensors enable them to measure your workout, and a Bluetooth transmitter sends that data to your mobile device or computer. LifeUp also comes with an exclusive app, which helps in automatic strength and rep tracking while choosing your customised workout.

Starting up

In spring of 2015, LiftUp’s co-founder, Nick Sulham, was traveling a lot for work and quickly realized the challenges of balancing a busy career with a healthy lifestyle. He started using resistance bands for their portability and wondered why, in a world where all our cardio is tracked, we can’t track our strength training workouts. So, as an engineer, he designed a little electronic circuit, grabbed some duct tape, and went to work. That scrappy taped-together box has morphed into LiftUp.

In the summer of 2015, Nick paired up with Hunter Ashmore (COO) and Chris Shuptrine (CMO). Nick is a design engineer, ex-personal trainer, and business strategist with nearly a decade in product development. Hunter is a Harvard MBA, ex-yoga instructor, and rocket scientist. He handles hardware design and business development. Chris manages marketing and has spent the last 8 years working with high-growth startups, including five years for a mobile tech company. They spent the last 9 months building the product and launched a Kickstarter on March 23rd.

The way forward

LiftUp plans to make a full line of smart strength training products, not just a resistance band. The Boston based startup also wants to increase the functionality of their app to make it more of a marketplace for buying and selling custom workouts. Bootstrapped till date, LiftUp has launched its Kickstarter campaign recently that has raised $12K in less than 48 hours.
