After working for a total of about six years with various web development tasks in Finland and Singapore, it was time to try something new. Independent traveling is a passion of mine, and I’ve planned my own trips to nearly 30 countries so far, so I know first-hand what information travelers need and are interested in. I know there are niches in the adventure travel industry waiting to be uncovered/discovered. My development of destination.travel started in Chiang Mai in Thailand at the beginning of 2015. Later in 2015, after staying in Southeast Asia for 2.5 years, I moved back to Finland to continue working on the project; adds founder Petri Lind.

There are a few travel destination recommendation tools on the market, but all of the competitors have some limitations.

1) jauntaroo.com – This site has some nice features, but the recommendation engine does not work properly. For example, it fails to properly take flight details into account when recommending destinations, and its information from destinations is too limited.
2) tripadvisor.com/Inspiration – Works ok, but has very limited functionality, so the recommendations are not really customized for the needs of each user.
3) audleytravel.com/inspiration – Similar to TripAdvisor. There are only a few options from which a user can choose, so the recommendations are not really customized.
Destination.travel will get revenue from affiliate ads which will be added to the site pretty soon.It will receive commission when an user reserves for example a hotel or a flight from the site by using third party booking system.
According to statistics, 60 percent of leisure travelers, and 41 percent of business travelers make their own travel arrangements, primarily using the internet. Now there is no longer a need to visit a travel agency to get personalized recommendations, thanks to this online tool destination.travel
