SprayPrinter is a wireless device that converts digital designs into wall art from your smartphone. All you need is to download an application to your smart phone, choose your favorite image, attach the Sprayprinternozzle on a spray can and start printing a picture of you, your cat, your teenage movie star crush or anything you prefer.
Richard Murutar and Mihkel Joala – started with the prototyping firm Prototaip. SprayPrinter grew out of that company when Mihkel´s daughter wanted him to paint a unicorn on her wall. Mihkel isn´t good at drawing so he didn´t really know how to do that. He was working as a professional inventor at Prototaip so he built a machine that could paint the picture instead of him. For that, he combined a car engine spray and a Nintendo Wii console. Richard and Mihkel realized this new gadget is bigger than Prototaip and so they concentrated on developing it full-time. Winning prototyping contest Prototron and participating in Buildit accelerator sure made it easier.
The team behind SprayPrinter is healthily balanced. Mihkel is the crazy inventor who comes up with new solutions in a flash. In the technical team there is a production engineer Henry Patzig. Henry has a master’s degree in product development and experience from working at Siemens. Their C.E.O Richard has a start-up failure experience from the past so he knows how to avoid the common mistakes when starting a company. SprayPrinter’s communication department has two people. One of them, creative manager Sirje Joala, has a bachelor´s degree in photography and is currently finishing her master´s degree in communications. The second communication specialist, Aet Rebane has a bachelor´s degree in journalism and communications. She has studied in a film school and worked as a journalist. The one who always sets their aims high (but never impossibly high), is the C.O.O Alo Murutar. He has a degree in economics and more than a 20 year experience in running a company.
SprayPrinter combines creativity and technology. It is a device that prints a picture from your smartphone to a wall. Previous knowledge or experience in arts or technology is not necessary for a successful printing. SprayPrinter is attached to a spray can and the movement of your hand definitely has an effect on the final results, but it is impossible to print the wrong way. SprayPrinter´s app tracks the movement of the SprayPrinter and sprays paint only on specified positions which guarantees high-quality results. SprayPrinter could be aptly compared to a colouring book, because there are also guiding lines that help the drawer complete the picture.
The primary revenue comes from the sales of SprayPrinter therefore they are creating a retailer network which in addition to SprayPrinter sales also functions as a promotional platform. The community behind SprayPrinter allows the owners to communicate with designers who can offer some ready-made designs or create something personal. In that way, SprayPrinter owners can get great high-quality images to print, designers get to sell their creations and they are happy to collect some commission from the transactions.
