SwitchMe : Switch your Electricity Provider from the comfort of your home

“It all started in Mid 2012”, says Aditya Mishra, Founder, SwitchMe. “I had a busy life and could not get my electricity switched from Reliance to Tata for a very long time in spite of wanting to. I needed to understand the process, do the paperwork and visit offices etc but never had enough time to do all this. I realized that I needed someone who could do the switch for me but couldn’t find any such service online.”

And this led him to think that he must not be the only one facing these problems. He thought to himself that there must other people like him who would like to switch their electricity vendor but are unable to do so because of lack of online services. He went around and surveyed a few people and just as he expected, several of them confirmed that they also needed such a service. Hence, SwitchMe was born.

SwitchMe is a consumer service that helps you switch from one service to another. With SwitchMe you can research your options for free and switch electricity providers for a small fee; all of it online.

They do this by providing an online comparison engine to discover and compare your choice. After that, they help you exercise your choice through a combination of their technology and on ground staff who take over the process of moving you from one provider to another. The switching happens in 3 easy steps

Currently, SwitchMe helps consumers in Mumbai Suburbs switch between Reliance Energy and Tata Power. Other services are coming soon! One of the amazing things about SwitchMe is that they do not publicize their services. Most of the customers have heard about their services from others or found them through a Google search.

Being based out of Mumbai, they initially want to help a large no of consumers in Mumbai to switch to their preferred service provider.

There is a significant difference in prices and consumers should be able to make use of this here and SwitchMe makes this easy”, says Aditya.

Next, they plan to expand to other service categories such as Mobile since their customers have been asking for it. This would also mean going national!

Prior to starting SwitchMe, Aditya worked at TCS for 10 years in various roles across investments, strategy, business development and sales. He also co-founded Headstart Foundation, India’s largest community of early stage entrepreneurs, which he currently leads. Headstart is a non-profit venture that runs the largest community of early stage entrepreneurs in India through events such as Startup Saturday, Headstart Higher and Headstart Club and our online discussion group.

“We started with the idea of creating startup ecosystem in India and since then the idea itself has evolved to the current shape and continues to evolve.”
