It is without doubt that the booming usage of Internet has brought with it, its share of comforts. With e-bill paying and on-line shopping the need to venture out has been drastically reduced. Unfortunately the boom has also brought with it an alarming increase in instances of cyber fraud. With billions of users on the Internet it is impossible to distinguish the legitimate ones from the fakes. There might be users out there who are accessing your website not to get information but to take information and they are indeed a threat to you and your company.
Given the heightened need for e-security and the immense prospects in the domain of Information Security and Risk Management, Wegilant Net Solutions, an IIT Bombay student initiative, was founded with the objective of offering strategies, capabilities, and technologies necessary to help agencies preemptively protect Web applications & IT infrastructure from threats and attacks. They address the complexities and growing costs of security risk management and compliance. Wegilant is a complete IT Security provider with Security Auditing and Penetration Testing in its menu of services, to name a few.
Toshendra Sharma, Founder and CEO, remembers how the idea for Wegiliant came into being.
“Meeting one of my IIT Bombay Professors, Bernard Menezes, and discussing the potential in the market & lack of service providers and awareness in this area, is one of the major reasons for the existence of this company.”
Wegilant was registered as a private limited company in November 2011 and is presently running with a staff of 15 at Hiranandani Gardens Powai, Mumbai. The company started with a B2C model and now is shifting focus to B2B model by delivering Security Audit services to the corporate clients. Toshendra started it with his own funds as seed capital. In their very first year they have been able to generated revenue of Rs. 1.5 Crores. Their future looks bright as they are planning to target big customers like banks & MNCs and are expecting their revenue to grow to Rs. 5 crores in next 2 years.
They were also the Title Sponsor of Techfest 2013, IIT Bombay Asia’s Largest Technical Festival. Publicizing their services through digital marketing, sponsorships, and personal contacts they have sponsored around Rs.50 lakh to Techfest. They also featured in the TATAFirst Dot’s (power by NEN) list of Top 25 Students startups. With an exponential growth in terms of increasing clients and their requirements a fledgling start up like Wegilant requires more seed-capital to gain a better foothold. Towards this, they have now started pitching to investors to help take their idea forward to grow into a company that can contend with the cyber security needs of the world.
