Last time facebook changed its look was when it revealed the new Facebook Timeline in around 2011. This new news feed design is the next big leap since then.
“The news feed is one of the most important things we’ve built,” Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the press event. He further added, “The stories around you deserve to be displayed with more than just text.”
That said, the new news feed features three major components:
- Bigger Images
- Multiple Feeds
- Mobile Consistency
The new look is a mobile-inspired look with images taking the center stage. focus on stories is now much more visual. Photos now make up nearly 50% of news feed stories. It might look similar to that of Instagram or Google +, but then facebook says its following trends on where design is headed with cleaner, navigable design and bigger & brighter photos.
Next, users will now have access to more types of feeds. Some feeds that we came across are Close friends, friends in general, music, photos, games and people and brands you “follow” (as opposed to friend). A simple chronological news feed timeline is an option too.
Finally, this new design was inspired by mobile, as facebook understands that traffic from mobile has been higher than ever. The new design also sports the new side navigation bar and more white space just as we see in the phones and tablet facebook app. Facebook is focused on making the overall experience more consistent, regardless of platform.
The new feed will start rolling out today on web.
So, the next question, how do you get this new design?
Well, you can just navigate to this site here https://www.facebook.com/about/newsfeed and then click the green “Join Waiting List” button at the top of the page. And now you wait!!! As of now, we do not know how long will it take to get the new designs up, but rest assured it wont be long as facebook has already started rolling this new look from today.
Tell us if you like this new news feed design.. Are you for it or against it?
