TalkLocal startup connect consumers with the right professionals
TalkLocal is the only learning local service marketplace that collects call analytics (missed call patterns, job declines, etc) to help expedite the time it takes to reach the right pro who is available to take the call in real time and do the job on the consumer’s schedule. Meanwhile, by connecting consumers and pros using Voice over IP, TalkLocal prevents consumer contact information from showing up on caller-IDs; and TalkLocal never sells or shares consumer contact information, leaving that decision to consumers alone. Finally, TalkLocal is the only conversation driven search platform, businesses pay per conversation with a matching consumer, and the phone based user experience means that companies, no matter how low-tech their operations and advertising investments, can get access to online searching consumers efficiently by phone.
TalkLocal was founded in 2011 and launched in late 2012. The local service marketplace was the brainchild of Co-founder and CEO Gurpreet Singh. The owner of a computer repair shop, Gurpreet had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on digital marketing over the years and noticed that too many of the service request calls he received were un-bookable; often the caller was outside of his service area, needed a service he didn’t offer, or otherwise mismatched. He thought that there ought to be a way to match consumers and businesses based on location, schedule, and service need so that every call goes to someone who is available to help. Gurpreet, a master’s in computer science with an AI concentration, coded the algorithm personally.
The three founders (two of which are brothers) each graduated from the University of Maryland College Park. Co-founders Manpreet Singh and Amandeep Bakshi also worked at Gurpreet Singh’s computer repair shop in various capacities. Gurpreet has initiated four successful startups, three of which were web-based; Manpreet has 12 years experience as an investment analyst in the tech space; and finally, Amandeep spent the bulk of his career doing software development for the Dept of Defense.
TalkLocal is positioning itself as a technology partner for any website that wants to help consumers connect to the right local professional; it’s a great upgrade for the standard phone directories that leave customers to call several numbers before finding the professional who is available and interested in the task at hand. The call matching algorithm along with the free lead previews sent to matching businesses does the calling around so that consumers don’t have to. TalkLocal has delivered over 1.5 million calls nationwide and has raised $4m in venture funds to date.It is also available on iOS and Android.
