Canada based EcoShopr is making the world a greener place by planting 1 tree for every item ordered
EcoShopr is an eco-friendly product curator with a purpose of making the world a greener place. For every item ordered, they plant 1 tree. They also like to keep the eco-friendly community updated with innovative companies / green tips that they can use. It is an affiliate based website with a purpose of making the world a greener place. Curating environmentally friendly, recyclable, and naturally made products is what they’re all about. They believe in giving back to the environment and that’s why they’ve committed to planting 1 tree for every item ordered through EcoShopr. The way it works is that every time a product link on EcoShopr is clicked by you, the resulting web page tracks where the click came from. If you then make a purchase on that website it goes towards the total of items sold through EcoShopr. At the end of the month they tally up how many products were ordered through EcoShopr (by you!) and they make a donation to treesforthefuture.org based on how many products were ordered.
This startup was founded in November, 2015 when Cody Arsenault noticed there weren’t many resources online where he could find one central location with a list of eco-friendly products. Upon noticing this he decided to create EcoShopr in order to help visitors choose products that are eco-friendly alternatives compared to other same-purpose products on the market. When creating it, he noticed that many companies whose products he featured on the site go to great lengths in order to help improve the environment. They do this either by creating a product from sustainable materials, giving back to environmental organizations, helping to remove waste from our landfills, etc. So with EcoShopr, he decided to plant a tree for every item ordered. Since Ecoshopr only features products and does not sell them directly, he keeps track of all items that are ordered once referred from EcoShopr. At the end of the month, he tally up the total number of items ordered. Whatever number of items were ordered is the number of trees they commit to planting.
He hopes that this site becomes a hub for environmentally conscious shoppers to go to in order to find eco-friendly product alternatives that they want to purchase. He hope to also grow the list of articles providing tips on how to be more eco-friendly as well as offer more product reviews. Additionally, he hope this site grows a sense of community where people can share ideas and learn from each other about how to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The revenue model for EcoShopr is primarily based on affiliate revenue. This means that for most products (not all) featured on the site, they receive a commission if the product is purchased upon clicking a purchase link on EcoShopr. This is currently the only form of revenue the site produces, however perhaps in the future they may look at releasing their own line of eco-friendly products into the mix.
They want to remain as transparent as possible with the amount of trees that are planted. That’s why each month they update the “Trees Planted” page on EcoShopr and publish how many items were ordered for that month along with the trees planted certificate from Tree for the future.
